The beautiful 1948 Cisitalia 202 coupe appeared at the Villa d"Este Concours d'Elegance in rare form and till this day it is in the permanent collection at the New York Museum of Modern Art.

All Shelby had to do to make the GT 350 was take a really good car and make it even better. They gave it more power and better handling similar to a cobra. The shocks were upgraded and it was given rear traction bars for better suspension. The engine was allowed to breathe easier using bullet mufflers, and you just gotta love those stripes.

1967 Lamborghini Miura P400

The Lamborghini Miura P400 Chasis was shown with coachwork at the Turin car show in 1965. The engineering and body craftsmanship was so detailed people wondered how would they be able to produce in bulk in a timely fashion to meet demands. In the beginning production was rushed and some things were forgotten, like air conditioning and a radio but they eventually fixed the problems in later versions.

1957 Mercedes Benz 300SL Roadster

The Mercedes Benz 300SL Roadster replaced the 300SL Gullwing. Production for the Gullwing ended after 54' and plans for the Roadster started. The Gullwing was too small and tight because of the doors and no trunk space. The Roadster would be more of a spacious vehicle with more comfort to appeal to people in California.

1966 Chevrolet Corvair Monza

From 1966 - 1969 Chevrolet went after a market yearning for compact cars. So they created the Corvair Monza, but they skipped a crucial step when they did not put in the suspension stabilizing bar. They were trying to save money in production but without the stabilizing bar the Corvair had terrible handling. By 1969 Corvairs were done.

1964 Ford Mustang Fastback

The Ford Mustang was introduced on April 17, 1964 and sold 400,000 units in the first year. It was the bestselling new car in history so GM (feeling the pressure), immediately came out with the Camaro in 1967 in competition with Mustang. With the 64' Mustang you had the option of a fastback, hardtop coupe, or a convertible. The long hood-short rear design is being copied to this day. This truly is a trendsetting car.

1939 Bugatti Type 57C Sqoutchik Roadster

French designers did a wonderful job on the 1939 Bugatti Type 57C Sqoutchik Roadster. They eliminated the square cut box shaped car designs that dominated since the early 1910s and replaced them with aerodynamic designs. The interior cockpit was pretty basic with leather seats, a wood grain dash with big easily read instruments and controls.

1951 BMW 501

In the 50's the BMW sports car was pretty much small potatoes to sports car enthusiasts. After World War 2 Russia took over most of BMW's manufacturing facilities in Germany. It wasn't until 1951 when BMW started to get back on it's feet.

1994 Saturn S Series

Owning a Saturn in the early 90' was pretty respectable. Al Gore even gave his stamp of approval on the Saturn and said he wanted to "Saturnize" the federal government. Saturn was unique because they were honest and foreal, at a time when Detroit was very deceitful with all kinds of hidden charges. The lies from cars salesmen seemingly forced Americans to buy foreign, but Saturn's honesty was a reason to by American again.

The History Of The Top 3 Cars In America

The history of the top 3 cars in america started in 1908 when Henry Ford introduced the american made Model T, but by 1927 Model T production stopped and GM took off. In 1960 Detroit's big three introduced their compact cars. The big seller was Chevrolet's Corvair by GM, Ford introduced the Falcon, and Chrysler-Plymouth had the Valiant. After the domination of the Corvair in 1964 Ford launched the Mustang in retaliation with record sales. GM hit back hard by kicking off the "muscle car" era with the Pontiac GTO. By 1973 gas prices sky rocketed almost forcing Americans to buy Japanese made small and fuel efficient cars. In 1980 Chrysler went bankrupt and received a bailout. From 1980 -1982 UAW members agreed to "givebacks" to help the big three survive. In 1982 Honda became the first Japanese company to build cars in the U.S. After the big three enjoyed several years of success, in 1990 they take another big hit due to a recession, just as GM launches Saturn. In 1994 american SUV's take over killing Japanese car companies, in 1998 Germany's Daimler-Benz buy's Chrysler for $38 billion, and in 1999 Ford and GM reach record breaking sales. From 2002-2004 GM really focuses in on making pick up trucks and SUV's. In 2005 GM claims a loss of $10.6 billion, in 2006 Ford claims a loss $12.6 billion, and in 2007 Daimler-Benz sold Chrysler for just $7.4 billion ($31 billion less than what he paid for it 9 years ago). In 2008 american automobiles took yet another huge hit after the Lehman Brothers crashed the stock market. President George W. Bush agreed to a bank bailout to save GM & Chrysler. In 2009 GM filed the second largest industrial bankruptcy in U.S. history making the U.S. government majority owners of GM.
